Age Of Empire

       "Link"

Link came to me while I was helping my friend Amy out teaching lessons on her farm. He came from the track with no papers, no information, just a tatoo and his arch enemy the mini horse "Lil Man".  Amy and I bought Link despite not knowing anything about him b/c I saw his heart from day one and knew he was destined for greatness. The only catch was if we bought him Lil Man had to come too (Lil Man was not gelded by the way). It took us about 6 months of research and hounding people to get his papers. Turned out he was a French TB born in Paris and imported to the states in 2001 as a 3 year old.  He was a winner of over $200,000, but that wasn't even where his true skills were.  Just 1 week after we bought Link he was showing in flat classes at Chateau Elan. He loved having a job and was eager to please. Shortly after that, this 15.1H Bay thoroughbred was learning to jump and loved every minute of it. His heart was so big you truly never knew he was such a small horse. He tried with all his might at everything and probably would have jumped the moon if he had been asked. He taught many a child how to post and do crossrails. He trusted me with no boundaries as I did him and he saved my tail over fences on numerous occasions. He fought his disease with all he had and hung on until I knew it was time to let him be at peace.  He was definitely a once in a lifetime partner and I will miss him so much. He touched the heart of everyone he came into contact with and his Legacy will live on in THE LINKS for decades to come!

The Horse's Wish.......

"If the day should come when I'm in pain, And you know I won't be well again, Promise you'll do what must be done             If this is the battle that can't be won.

It'll break your heart but please be kind, Don't let your grieving sway your mind.  For this is when you'll let me see                  Just how much you do love me.

Together we've had many happy years,
The future now can hold no fears            Please don't let me suffer - so                    When that day comes, please let me go.

For my usual vet please will you send?       But stay with me until the end...                  Hold me steady, speak to me                          Till my bright eyes no longer see.

In the time I hope you'll come to see,          It's the last kindness you'll do for me.        One more time please stroke my mane,    And you'll know that I'll have no more pain.

And don't be sad that it was you                who decided this was what to do,           we've been such friends through all these years, Don't let me be the cause for tears..

You'll always see me graze now,              with the sun upon my back,                            and no pains will tire me now,                However long the Hack.

I live now in your heart and mind,                   a lovely place to stay,                                           And what you have in memories                    no one can ever take away."
